iPhone 26.5 update
iOS 26.5 became available on May 12, 2026. The main feature it advertises is encrypted Messages communication with Android phones. It is supposed to have performance improvements and battery life optimization improvements, and a new Apple Maps feature.
I got a new iPhone and the store installed iOS 26.5. The phone does not show 26.5.1 as available. Online forums talk abot a "wallpaper bug" with no explanation.

iOS 26.5.1 and 26.5.2
Geeky Gadgets has suggestions about what to do after installing. 26.5.1 was announced on 1 June 2026. It is only offered to iPhone 17 users. 26.5.2 was announced with another emergency fix for iPhone 17 users.
Apple says iOS 26.5.1 has an urgent bug fix: "iPhones using 26.5 would stop receiving iCloud change notifications, which impacted cloud data sync." It also turns on "stolen device protection." It also fixes a charging bupg: "This update addresses an issue for a small number of users that may prevent wired charging on iPhone Air and iPhone 17 models when the battery is nearly drained." My phone is an iPhone 16, came with 26.5. My phone is not offering 26.5.1 to me.
iOS 26.5.2 has several security fixes, and supposedly improves battery performance, and better WiFi connections. It is still in beta. It has a cure for a serious security bug that let the FBI extract deleted Signal messages.
Things I don't use
I do not use a lot of the AI features. Many of these features are not things I want, so I can't tell you anything about how they work.
Settings
- Web suggestion: Open Settings, Accessibility, Display & Text Size and turn on Reduce Bright Effects and Reduce Transparency.

- Some users report improved keyboard accuracy and stability in iOS 26.5, with enhanced responsiveness and typing speed on various iPhone models.
