iOS 26.6.1 Beta is available as of Aug 14, 2026, with more security fixes. (I usually skip beta releases.) iOS 26.6.1 was released on Aug 17, 2026. I installed it, and it works fine.

iOS 26.5 became available on May 12, 2026. The main feature it advertises is encrypted Messages communication with Android phones. It is supposed to have performance improvements and battery life optimization improvements, and a new Apple Maps feature.

I got a new iPhone and the store installed iOS 26.5. The phone shows 26.5.2 as available. Online forums talk abot a "wallpaper bug" with no explanation.

iOS 26.5.1 and 26.5.2

Geeky Gadgets has suggestions about what to do after installing. 26.5.1 was announced on 1 June 2026. It is only offered to iPhone 17 users. 26.5.2 was announced with another emergency fix for iPhone 17 users.

Apple says iOS 26.5.1 has an urgent bug fix: "iPhones using 26.5 would stop receiving iCloud change notifications, which impacted cloud data sync." It also turns on "stolen device protection." It also fixes a charging bupg: "This update addresses an issue for a small number of users that may prevent wired charging on iPhone Air and iPhone 17 models when the battery is nearly drained."

iOS 26.5.2 has several security fixes, and supposedly improves battery performance, and better WiFi connections. It is still in beta. It has a cure for a serious security bug that let the FBI extract deleted Signal messages.

My phone is an iPhone 16, came with 26.5.

iOS 26.5.1 through 26.5.5

I skipped updating to 26.5.1, 26.5.2, 26.5.3, and 26.5.4. As of Aug 13, 26.5.5 is available. I am keeping my phone backed up so that I can upgrade to 26.45 if I want do.

Things I don't use

I do not use a lot of the AI features. Many of these features are not things I want, so I can't tell you anything about how they work.
